Cloudehill Gardens

Billed as “A Garden for all Seasons in the Dandenong Ranges” Cloudehill Gardens is a vision of beauty and colour. That is because there is something for everyone here.  In fact, they’ve got Bamboo that grows all year round, camellias, bays, the lace-leaf maple. Plus, there is even a shrub named the ‘Wedding Cake Shrub” for the romantics!

The plants are displayed in a variety of Gardens. For example, South African bulbs flower in spring and early summer. Also, Japanese shrubs grow in a meadow of rough grass and the Water Garden is flanked by hornbeam hedges. Further along, are Hydrangeas and ornamental grasses and bronzes in ponds. They also feature maples imported from the famous Yokohama Trading Nursery. Plus, they have grape vines, silver pear, magnolias and beeches from England dating back to 1928?

Lawns and Sculptures

Further along in the Quadrangle Lawn, sculptures are displayed and box topiaries too. Also, a Marquee Lawn is available for events such as wedding ceremonies. Interestingly, Rhododendrons are supplied to the wholesale florist market from here. Of course, roses make their beauty and scent felt, alongside peonies and garden art, so walking is a treat.  Also, a Theatre Lawn pays homage to classic theatres in Roman and Greek gardens and the Italian renaissance. Last but not least, Shakespearean Twilight Evenings with picnics in Summer.

The Kitchen Garden, with Chinese apricot and Plums and a lavender hedge and an Upper Meadow with apple trees and daffodils complete the panoply of these amazing gardens. They are open seven days from 9 AM to 5 PM.
